The 19th International exhibition «Amusement Rides and Entertainment Equipment RAAPA EXPO – 2017» that took place from March 2 to March 4 in pavilion 75 at VDNH was a great success.
The exhibition was organized by the Russian Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (RAAPA) with the support of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA). General Sponsor: PAX, Group of companies. General Media Partner: Amusement Industry Catalogue, magazine; web-based partners: vtorio.com, rides.zone, and others.
Over 200 companies from more than 20 countries all over the world (Russia, the USA, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Germany, China, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Belorussia, the Ukraine, and others) took part in the exhibition and presented all the main trends in the modern amusement industry: attractions, kiddie playgrounds, entertainment equipment, 5D cinemas and virtual reality simulators, sports equipment, shooting galleries, trampolines, equipment for waterparks, electric cars and pedal go-karts, bowling, pool, vending and redemption machines, park design services, light and sound equipment, event management services, landscape and theme design, food service in parks and FECs, etc.
22 exhibitors joined the RAAPA EXPO for the first time. This indicates that despite hard economic times, the entertainment market in Russia keeps developing: new operators as well as foreign manufacturers and suppliers of the entertainment equipment emerge.

Let us outline some major trends and novelties of 2017.
This year, kiddie playgrounds with distinguished design and entertainment complexes for toddlers were particularly standing out. The range of products directed at this target audience expands with new equipment at RAAPA EXPO year after year.
Colourful trampolines that are traditionally quite noticeable at the exhibition this time were significantly challenged by sport arenas presented by few manufacturers.
The number of companies offering robots, animatronics, and other animated figures looking now even more realistic, and the horror ones more frightening, has increased.
The “VR-technologies are back” slogan could be heard at the RAAPA EXPO-2017 over and over. This year, the ones-forgotten virtual attractions have proved their capability not to be just a standalone attraction but to make for the whole virtual park working as an integrated complex. Examples of such entertainment centers were introduced at the exhibition.
Regular exhibitors have prepared new versions of gaming machines and sports simulators. The large part of companies have presented their services on design and equipping of waterparks (Polin Waterparks, Turkey; WIEGAND.MAELZER GmbH, Germany; WhiteWater, Canada; Aquakita, Mexico, and others).
As usually, there was a wide array of classical family and kiddie attractions. The wide range of equipment was offered by such companies as Italpark, PlaySpace, Antonio Zamperla SPA, Caroussel, and PAX Groups of companies, and other world-renowned brands.
Leading F&B suppliers for parks and entertainment centers including Business Russia, Technika Plus, Food Service, and others have not only demonstrated their equipment and products but also taught few culinary master classes featuring famous chefs.

The best expositions were awarded with the RAAPA Gold Medals. Among them, Brunswick/KidsPlay, Polin Waterparks (Turkey), Italpark, PlaySpace, AeroMir, Eastern-European company (Belorussia), Zigong City Ocean Art Co. (China), Bolid, OtAdoYa, and Sport Attractions.
In total, almost 4000 specialists have visited the exhibition over a three day period: owners and top-managers of parks, family entertainment centers, water parks, representatives of cities’ and regions’ administrations, developers and investors, owners and directors of resorts, hotels, leisure complexes, manufacturers, suppliers and distributors of entertainment equipment, private entrepreneurs, representatives of mass-media, and other parties concerned.

The exhibition was accompanied by the business forum. Around 400 professionals from Russia and abroad participated in a variety of events. Trainings and workshops were delivered by leading Russian and foreign experts in the entertainment industry.

The events included business trainings on ‘Team Management: Organization of Effective Work of Personnel in Amusement Parks’ (moderated by Marina Niklaus), ‘A Modern Entertainment Center. Effective Business Models and Formats’ (moderated by Ludmila Kiseleva), ‘Arcade Machines Management: How to Make the Most of It’ (moderated by Park Management).
Two exciting events took place directly at the entertainment centers: PandaPark hosted the seminar on ‘New Concepts of Family Entertainment Centers – Four Facets of Success’ (moderated by the EntenS Group), and Pushka FEC had the seminar on ‘A Modern Bowling Center. The Key Factors of Successful Operation in the New Economic Situation’.
The operators of parks and outdoor playgrounds took active part in the conference on ‘Modern Approaches to the Management of Leisure and Amusement Parks’. The topics covered during the conference included development of sport and adventure leisure formats in amusement parks, effective operation of an amusement park in winter, tools of online promotion of the parks, theming and automation of a leisure park, and others. The conference attendees also had a chance to take an educational trip to the СhaiLand amusement park in Mytishchi.
The largest audience was attracted by a business training ‘Happy Guests – High Revenues’ first delivered within the RAAPA EXPO by Pavel Timets and Ksenia Biushkina, the specialists of KPA, LLC.
Huge interest was also caused by the conference on ‘Operational Management of a Waterpark under the Current Conditions’ that gathered a significant number of the Russian and foreign experts.
For the first time at the EXPO, the dedicated seminar on municipal parks: ‘A Municipal Park as an Effective Institution of Culture’ took place featuring topnotch speakers, T.V. Abankina, Professor of the Higher School of Economics (HSE); E.Kh. Melville, Director of ZIL Cultural Center of Moscow; and E.N. Pryanishnikov, strategic urban planning specialist among them.
The attraction novelties were introduced during the roundtable ‘Entertainment Technologies –
Novelties and Current Trends of the Coming Season’.
Let alone the exposition and business forum, the exhibition will also be remembered for the Golden Pony Moscow-2017 international awards (established by the publishing house Facto Edizioni, Italy) granted at the Gala Dinner dedicated to the opening of RAAPA EXPO-2017 on March 2. In 2017, the Golden Pony was awarded to Dinosauria (Minsk, Belarus ), Kva-Kva Park (Mytishi, Russia), Panda Park - Riviera (Moscow, Russia), Magicland (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), Adventure Park Zamania (Moscow, Russia),  Municipal Park Severodvinsk (Russia), Planeta (Glazov, Russia), Grinnlandia (Kursk, Russia), Green Park (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), and Shumba Land (Tbilisi, Georgia).
The RAAPA EXPO-2017 results show that the amusement industry in Russia keeps developing despite crisis. The exhibition has displayed current trends of the world entertainment market, modern technologies and leisure formats that will bring joy to the visitors of parks, waterparks, and FECs in the nearest future.
During the past 19 years the exhibition has won the status of one of the most efficient business platforms where the professionals of amusement industry meet.
RAAPA EXPO-2017 became an outstanding event of domestic amusement industry, and opened the next park season impressively!
